I’m normally not one for Valentine’s Day but having a child in school has made me kind of set aside my distaste for Cupid and participate in Love Day, even if just for Ava. I remember the joy of getting valentine’s day cards, the heart-break in NOT getting cards, then as I got older, the candy-grams that never arrived when I was in high school and the break ups days before the big day once I graduated. Now as a married woman, mother of two kids, I will play nice and let go of my grudge against cupid! So I have after scouring the endless lists of fun things to do when in love is in the air, I’ve picked my top 3 ways to keep love alive and where to visit!
1. Unfortunately, I cannot get a babysitter, there is not food in the house so I must come up with something family friendly and quick!

Rocky Mountain Flatbread’s chefs have created a delicious three course menu for Valentine’s Day that offers over 75 combinations to choose from – with a twist! Every course begins with a raw handmade chocolate from Koko Monk’s Chocolates. Not to mention that Rocky Mountain Flat Bread is probably one of our most favourite child friendly restaurants in Vancouver; with a kids play area, well priced kids food that is both healthy and delicious!
Begin your dance with romance with the Diablo Del Amar – Mango raw chocolate with Chili – followed by a Fig & Goat Cheese Salad option or soup du jour if your heart so desires.
When you add the taste of Bacchanalia – Balsalmic vinegar, Caramel & Sea Salt raw chocolate – to one of our hand crafted Traditional Flatbread pizzas or pasta dishes you know you’ve got something to thrill the palate.
And once in a Blue Moon – a Blue Moon Blue Cheese raw chocolate that is – you deserve that dessert option of baked cheesecake with toasted coconut base. Make a reservation for the whole family at Rocky Mountain Flatbread on Valentine’s Day!
2. I’ve nagged him senseless about working too much and not giving me time for myself and now I owe him one!

3. We have two kids and have put work first for the last 8 years, so we need sometime to reconnect!
Puriin Spa located in the heart of downtown Vancouver just might be the only location in the lower mainland to offer a couples float! Floating is creates a zero-gravity environment in a water pool, to soothe and heal your body from the stresses of life’s daily pressure. Floating in a flotation therapy suite can help achieve a deep state of relaxation. It allows the body to recover from stress, relieves pain, stimulates blood-flow through all tissues, and helps the body release natural endorphins.
Maybe you cannot go this weekend but it’s a great gift idea for something you can do together that says.. “honey, we deserve this!” Being a non-fan of Valentine’s Day, a gift like a couples float is the perfect way to say I love you without giving in to the stereotypical Valentine’s day activities!
We love that we can think outside the box with wonderful ideas like this and experience some different activities to keep the love alive! Valentine’s Day does not need to be hallmark, it can truly be about love! Love for the family, love for the hardworking people in your life or love for the couple you know you both deserve to be!
